About Light India

Electric Lamp & Component Manufacturers' Association of India (ELCOMA), the apex body of lighting industry in India has partnered with the leading global exhibition organiser Messe Frankfurt to bring in an international lighting exhibition - Light India 2012. Messe Frankfurt is the organiser of these highly respected industry shows:

  • The bi-annual Light + Building held in Frankfurt, which is the world’s biggest lighting and building show
  • The Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition held annually in Guangzhou, China. which is Asia’s biggest and most comprehensive lighting forum
  • The Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology held annually in Guangzhou, China
  • The bi-annual BIEL Light + Building held in Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • The annual Light Middle East held Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The new dynamic Light India 2012 will be a comprehensive international lighting trade fair on a large exhibitor and visitor scale never seen before in India. Light India 2012 is the seventh exhibition in the series of exhibitions which have been organized by ELCOMA (Electric Lamp & Component Manufacturers Association of India) and ISLE (Indian Society of Light Engineers).

In the year 1991, both ELCOMA and ISLE had tied up with the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) to organize the very first lighting exhibition in the current called PRAKASH, which, when translated into English means “LIGHT”. The exhibition was then subsequently held in 1995 and 1999. The gross area of these exhibitions has been invariably between 3000 – 3500 sqm with about 100 participating companies. In fact, over the years many of the big and important lighting players in India like Bajaj Electricals, Philips Electronics, Havels India Private Limited, OSRAM Limited have been regularly participated amongst other players.

Post 1999, ELCOMA and ISLE decided to move ahead on their own steam, thus giving birth to the very LIGHT INDIA INTERNATIONAL with a schedule of once in three years. The first edition took place in the year 2002 and subsequently in 2005 and 2008.

The 2011 edition which was due was postponed on account of the then on-going strategic tie-up with Messe Frankfurt and eventually is scheduled in October 2012 and has been re-christened LIGHT INDIA 2012.

Light India 2012, hence, is the seventh in the series of lighting exhibitions that have been organized by ELCOMA and ISLE; this time around the only change is that this one is with the partnership with Messe Frankfurt.
